About the Work:
Elena Duff's paintings are suffused with energy, life and movement. Her work
depicts semi-abstract shapes and forms; elements which mirror her fascination
with the complexity of nature and the greater world around us. Duff is a painter who
relishes in combining almost painfully complex detail with intensive colour and
uses an obsessive process of building abstract forms and colours over one another.
These paintings are at once obsessive in their detail and joyful in their execution.
Tendrils, limbs, organisms and branches are layered and entwined with one another,
until they ultimately strangle and constrict.
In her recent sculptures she has responded to given themes, resulting in works that
are diverse in content and media.
Elena Duff graduated from the National College of Art and Design in Dublin in 1995
and currently resides in Berlin
